Hi... my question is for a friend. He has the following symptoms: thirty a lot, and urinates frequently. However, he also states that whenever he includes salt to his diet, he feels much better. He has been tested for diabetes and the results came back negative for diabetes.
The common causes for excess thirst and frequent urination are: 1) Diabetes mellitus 2) Urinary tract infection 3) Dehydration 4) Hypo or hyperkalemia 5) Diabetes insipidus
Rarely, it is also associated with parathyroid gland disorders. As you already ruled our Diabetes Mellitus, so in your case I think it would be other causes.
I will suggest you to review here with detailed history or consult with physician. I will also suggest you to do routine urine examination, blood potassium level after physician consultation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Shyam B. Kale
