What Causes Excessive Bleeding After Implanting Implanon Contraceptive?

Hi, In march I went onto the Implanon comtraceptive implant and after about a week had a a continuous bleed for over a month so they put me on the combined pill as well for 2 1/2 months. This stopped the bleeding but now I have stopped that and have been bleeding for a week and a half and I was wondering if you had any advice of what to do? I dont really want to give up on the implant but obviously don t want to be bleeding so often! Thanks Anna

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Bleeding and spotting may be common side effects of nexplanon usage. Firstly make sure that there is not any other pathology causing the bleeding. An ultrasound and pap smear is needed. Wait for some weeks till this spotting subsides.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
