What Causes Excessive Bleeding And Vomiting After Undergoing Septoplasty?

My husband had a septplasty performed yesterday. Last night he experienced excessive bleeding and vomiting, which led us to the ER where they packed his nose. His nausea has subsided and there s a little oozing through the packing. Now he says his eyes are burning and they are bloodshot. Is this normal?

Hello,

You are experiencing nausea excessive bleeding and vomiting after undergoing septoplasty. Presently you are also having eye burn, it hurts and they are blood shot. Nausea and vomiting are often caused due to side effects or after effects of anesthesia. It will gradually go away with time. Eyes may burn or hurt as the air pressure around the eyes get raised due to coughing , sneezing, etc. Hemorrhage, abscesses, scaling, adhesions, and scar tissue are often seen after the operation of the septoplasty.

Swelling may last two to three days, but full recovery may take up to three months. Patients may have some swelling of the nose, upper lip, cheeks, or around the eyes for several days after surgery. This swelling gradually resolve and is normal. To reduce swelling or inflammation reduce the swelling ice can be put on the face, bridge of the nose, and eyes as much as tolerated. Problems in the sinuses can cause facial pressure, feeling of fluid or fullness in the ears, and even eye pain.

Patients undergoing the septoplasty operation may be able to return to work in 1 to 2 weeks but full recovery from turbinate surgery may take 6 weeks or more. Call your surgeon if you experience ever. severe headache, stiff neck, bleeding, etc., you will be treated accordingly. Do not neglect, get a follow up clinical examination done, get treated at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
