What Causes Excessive Bleeding From Anus After Treating Hemorrhoids?
I am a 47 year old female, past medical is 4 successful pregnancies, tubal ligation, partial hysterectomy (ovaries were left), gall bladder removal. Family history on father side is very high with cancer, prominent being colon cancer. I had my first battle with hemorrhoids about a month ago. For two days now, I am experiencing a large amount of bright red blood in the toilet bowl and on the paper when I have a b.m. There is no pain. I m sure you can understand my concern and am wondering what else can cause this bright red bleeding.
Bright red color stool could be indicative of bleeding from distal/terminal portion of GIT I.e. from large intestine to anus.
In your case,if you had been treated with internal haemorrhoids then it could be the reason but the other causes must be ruled out like large bowel obstruction, ulcerative colitis, intussuception etc.
You may require thoroughly clinical examination with proctoscopy and colonoscopy to rule out any other lower GIT etiologies.
You should be given antibiotics (quinolones-ofloxacin with antiprotozoals- metronidazole/ornidazole) with topical steroids and antihistamines to prevent bleeding if it is coming from anus otherwise treatment is mainly depend on the underlying cause.
