Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had pains in my left ear when i burp, yawn and stretch when i burp, yawn and stretch for about 2weeks with non stop hissing sound. The has pained stopped stop for a week now when i do the things I mentioned before. Now when burp and experience hiccups i hear a pop and sound like I am playing with platic bag. Sometime i think it s because of my constant exposure to sound has something to do with this.
Hiccups are usually benign and it passes spontaneously. If this is lasting for more than 48 hrs and leading to cessation of breath should be investigated. Hope you do not have any sore throat, reflux esophagitis or ear infection.
Get a blood test to rule out any electrolyte imbalance and to see that kidneys are alright. Get a chest x-ray to rule out anything irritating the nerves supplying the diaphragm. A MRI of brain may also be required some time.
Chlorpromazine, metochlorpropamide and baclofen are useful in controlling the hiccups. Consult your physician for the prescription. Also, you can also try vinegar - a teaspoon or granulated sugar - a teaspoon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Iven Romic Rommstein, General Surgeon
