What Causes Excessive Crying After Taking Imitrex?
my daughter is 24 and is a certified insurance agent who stares at a computer screen for 10 hours a day and has developed migraines, her doctor prescribed her imitrex and she took it today before work and had to leave work due to uncontrollable crying, after about an hour I finally got her to sleep. I believe its anxiety that the med has made her escalate, could this be possible?
Hello, Thank you for your question at Healthcare Magic
Imitrex (Sumatriptan) can cause anxiety and emotional changes. It is difficult to give you a definite answer at this point without knowing her history and evaluating herror mentalk status. The excessive crying she developed can either be related or not related to imitrex. I recommend that she discontinue the imitrex and follow up with her doctor to see if imitrex is the cause for her symptoms. Imitrex only treats and episode of acute headache. It is not used to prevent migraineheadaches. Please discuss with your doctor about medication to prevent migraine attacks is right for your daughter.
Hope I was able to help you. Please address any more concerns Regards, Dr.Lekshmi
