Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Generally, every day, I seem to have a tremendous urge to sleep around 3:00 PM. It is almost impossible to stay awake. When I do nap, I frequently wake up feeling very shaky, literally. My heart feels like it is beating a million times per minute and I am a little lightheaded and nauseous. Any ideas?
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. It is common in most of individuals to have day time sleepiness after lunch but if this becomes intolerable or starts to hamper the work then attention is needed. Day times sleepiness along with feelings of shakiness could occur due to some nutritional deficiencies. Iron Deficiency Anaemia, low vitamin B12 levels are common causes of day time sleepiness, tiredness and shakiness. Hypothyroidism is also other reason for such symptoms. Please visit a physician to rule out these conditions.
Such sleepiness can also be seen when there is lack of sleep during night or sleep is associated with multiple awakenings in night. Depression in mild forms may present with such presentation. Please visit a psychiatrist for detailed evaluation of your sleep.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care.
