What Causes Excessive Daytime Sleepiness After Back And Hip Surgeries?
My husband, 79 in June, has been in bad health since 1980. Three back surgeries, two hip surgeries, three TIA s, prostate removal/cancer, gallbladder surgery, and the list goes on. He now is experiencing severe sleepiness during the daytime even with 2-3 naps. He is in bed at 6:30-7:00 every night. Question: What could the sleepiness be a symptom of.

If the person is sleep all the time so it is the physiological phenomenon in geriatric age if no present symptoms particular of endocrine system is there, still it is advisable to rule out the endocrine dysfunction, second it could be due to general debility, hormone changes, some chronic illness also needs to be ruled out, else it more sleepiness could be physiological, (If the patient is on any sedative drug so dose of that drug need to be adjusted or it needs to be stopped ).
