Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hello my son is 1 month old, I have noticed past 2 days he has a lot of saliva to where he chokes on his own I have to pat his back for awhile until it passes and also when he breaths it sounds like he has flem or maybe its the saliva but has a squeaky sound to it when he breaths. He is currently on the similac sensitive no gmo formula. What could be the reason why he has so much saliva? would the formula have something to do with it.
The most likely cause of excess salivation or drooling in newborn can be due to a common condition known as Ankyloglossia or tongue-tie. In this condition a band of tissue present beneath the tongue in the floor of the mouth is thick and limits tongue movements.
Although this condition is detected at routine check-up at birth, it is not uncommon to miss it initially particularly when mild. These infants presents with feeding difficulty like unable to suck the breast or difficulty in rooting.
Kindly, visit doctor to get your child examined to rule out ankyloglossia or related pathology. In addition, avoid using formula food unless lactation is failed, as mothers milk is the best for babies well being.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ayesha Shareef,
