Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My so. Is 2 years old. I noticed almost a week ago that his lips were very dry. He then started licking and biting his lips continuously. Due to the licking and biting there is now a crusted red ring around the edges of his lips. There aren't any sores/blisters. It's not leaking and it doesn't hurt him. What is this? What can I do?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of excessive dryness on lips which seems to be due to excessive licking and pricking of lips as due to this there is removal of natural moist layer from the lips which causes dryness.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to
- Avoid excessive exposure to sunlight.
- Use lip balm which can be directly applied rather than if you use finger it will cause spreading of infection again and again whenever you will apply with finger.
- Avoid licking your lips.
- Give diet rich in multivitamins.
- Apply petroleum jelly on lips and drink plenty of water.
Visit dermatologist once and get it examined if symptoms keeps on persisting and get it examined and start treatment after proper prescription.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr.Harry Maheshwari
