What Causes Excessive Mucus In The Nose And Throat?

Hi. Lately in seem to have a lot of mucus in my nose and throat. I don t have a cold or any active allergies. However, I have been drinking protein shakes or green smoothies twice a day made with almond milk. Could this be the cause? Anything I can do to cut the mucus?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Persistent nasal discharge indicates increased mucous production. Common causes may be allergy, sinus infection, nasal polyp, rhinitis and deviated nasal septum. Throat irritation may be due regurgitation of stomach contents.
Advice
1.     Stop protein shakes
2.     Levocetirizine 5 mg daily per oral for 5 days
3.     Amoxicillin 500 mg every 8 hours per oral for 7 days
4.     Ambroxol 30 mg daily per oral for 5 days
5.     Do gargle with slight warm salt water four times daily
6.     Avoid dust, smoking, alcohol, dry environment and spicy food
7.     Investigation – X – ray PNS
8.     Consult an ENT specialist for general examination of your nasal passage
