Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
what causes excessive mucus in the nose. some bleeding-using oxygen at night. i use a roll of toilet tissue a day and 90% of that uses if for the nose from morning to night. amazing amount of mucus comes from the nose when i get up in the morning and continuous during the day. it take 4 trys to swallow a vitamin pill without it getting hung in the throat. i am now using zyrtec but it is of little relief
If this is an acute problem (recent, short term) then it is is likely due to infection (common cold, flu).
If it is more long term, then it is likely related to allergic rhinitis which refers to allergies involving the nasal passages. It can occur on its own or in association with allergic sinusitis (involving sinuses).
If you can determine which allergen is causing the reaction then reducing or eliminating your exposure would help. Additional treatment would involve the use of a topical nasal steroid spray and decongestant along with your antihistamine.
Eg of topical sprays are flonase, rhinocort, nasocort, nasonex
I hope this helps
