Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
The feeling of excessive mucous production can be either due to increased production or decreased clearance..
As per your complain excessive mucous production and feeling of irritation behind the soft
palate can be due to either
allergic reaction to the smoke as you pointed that you get the feeling of irritation every time you are exposed to smoke while one other reason for this can be SILENT REFLUX [LARYNGEO-PHARYNGEAL REFLUX] which can lead to
throat irritation and due to which there is increased mucous production and any irritant when enters the throat like smoke can add up to the irritation..
You should consult an
ENT specialist and get evaluated and in case of reflux you can also be referred to a Gastroenterologist who can evaluate the entire signs and symptoms and also get an
Endoscopy done to rule out the exact cause..
You can also try taking
Pantoprazole 40 mg twice a day and take
digene or gelucil half an hour before meals for relief..
Do warm saline gargles..
Avoid spicy foods as it can cause irritation..
Hope this information helps..
