What Causes Excessive Saliva?

Hi i have a friend that has a 25 yr old child who has multiple health issues including a trach she obtained a sputum culture a few days ago and the lab said it had too much salivia in it the sample was thick and mostly grey green is it true what the lab said or did they lose or mess the sample up

You can get a repeat sample preferable in the morning after washing the mouth with water. The given sample is diluted and can not be able to make a definite opinion.
