What Causes Excessive Salivation After Suffering From Severe Anxiety?

I just got back from a bachelor party weekend and have felt extreme anxiety all day yesterday and Sunday. Keep in mind my last drink was Saturday night but it was a lot. Now that I feel less anxious I have noticed excessive saliva. Just wondering if this is normal? Also have had diarrhea since I returned home from the party

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Heavy use of alcohol can cause a lot of problems with the body. Alcohol is a depressant drug so when you drink a lot of it then stop the body comes out of that depressed state with a rebound to anxiety. The most extreme form of this is delirium tremens in which people have seizures may even die. The salivation and diarrhea can certainly be from alcohol toxicity. Please consider not drinking more than two drinks in a day even when celebrating.
If your symptoms are not getting better in a week or if they become severe see a doctor right away.
Regards
