What Causes Excessive Sleepiness After A Head Injury?

I hit my head and immediately felt sleepy but couldn t get to sleep when I try to lay down. Does this mean I shouldn t sleep? I have already had a minor TBI so I know a little bit about it, but I don t know what I should do in this case. It doesn t hurt much but there is a bump. Should I be worried?

Hi,

You already have a history of TBI, so sleepiness can be due to side effects of the medications you have been taking or the sleep disorders which you are already going through but you should get physically examined & get X-ray, CT, MRI & blood workout done because sleepiness can be due to injury/trauma to the brain itself.

Undetected or untreated sleepiness can complicate to loss of consciousness from several minutes to hours. Coma or other disorders of consciousness. You can apply Thrombophob ointment in the area affected by the bump. Get evaluated, get treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
