Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was in the hospital for influenza B, i fell on my way to the BR and struck my left parietal lobe. I then reportedly had 5 (unaware) seizures emanating from my left side of my head. They did a CT and MRI what ch showed activity there. They put me on initially 500mg of Keppra then decreased it to 375 mg after excessive sleepiness. Still have the sleepiness and have not had any seizure activity. Can t drive for 6 mos. I personally think it had something to do with the fall and I DO NOT have a seizure disorder. Would appreciate your opinion. Want to drive badly
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
In my opinion, there is no reason to be worried and usually this is just temporary and self limiting. Excessive daytime sleepiness is common issues and should be considered in this case. Excessive daytime sleepiness may be caused by conditions such sleep deprivation, metabolic disturbances, sleep apnoea, medications, neurological disorders such seizures and psychiatric disorders such depression. If emotional causes are ruled out then some tests can be done to confirm the diagnosis. In my opinion, polysomnography ( sleep study ), is one of the necessary examinations in order to achieve a correct diagnosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
