What Causes Excessive Sleepiness While On Oxycodone And Acetaminophen?
My 91 year mother had an elbow replacement on Monday 27 and is on Oxycodone and Acetaminophen 325 mg . Takes one tab. Every 4 hrs and 2 at bedtime She is experiencing sleepiness all the time and swollen ankles and one hand red and swollen . Please advise Thank you Naomi
Sometimes, some patients do experience swollen joints after replacement therapy. But this is temporary. I suggest to report this to her orthopedic doctor in order to rule out possible complications.
With regards to excessive sleepiness, that is due to meds she is on. Please take note that your mother is 91 years old, and at her age, the rate of metabolism is low.
So the meds including anesthetic drugs used during the operation might take longer to clear off her body and she finishes falling in sleep.
Plus the Operation is a bit difficult and long that might have exhausted her. That's why she needs more time to recover.
However, I still suggest to monitor her blood pressure and discuss with her doctor to rule out possible complications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
