What Causes Excessive Sleepiness While On Sumatriptan Succinate?
What is in sumatriptan succinate that makes me sleepy? I usually sleep deeply after taking it for my migraine headaches. Since I have terrible insomnia, I wonder if there is a component to the drug that I can take for the insomnia apart from taking it for migraines. Thank you for your response.
Sumatriptan should not be used as a sleep aid. Regular use of sumatriptan has adverse effects like hypertension. Management of insomnia is through following good sleep hygiene practice which is detailed below -Go to bed at same time every day -Do not go to bed on full stomach -Do not use electronic devices or read books while in bed -Turn off all the lights and keep the room dark -Exercising daily can also help -If these measures do not help benzodiazepines like Ativan/xanax at lowest dose can be tried.
Hope this answers your question Please address further questions here Regards, Dr.Lekshmi
