Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Excessive Sweating Along With Insomnia And Muscle Weakness?
I am a 74 yr. old female with Graves disease & have been taking Synthroid for 20 yrs. Dosage has been increased over the yrs. & I am now taking .150. Recent symptoms are excessive sweating, insomnia, muscle weakness in thighs, and mood swings. What could be my problem? Could it be too much medicine or not enough? I am also extremely tired. I was diagnosed in 1997 w/ hyperthyroidism caused by Graves disease and had radioactive iodine treatment taken in pill form.
All those symptoms you mentioned are due to the effects of synthroid drugs. The symptoms occur because of high thyroid hormone levels in blood. Also the age factor or presence of other drugs may cause such effect.
I recommend you to visit your treating doctor and get your thyroid status checked.Doses can be adjusted accordingly. It then needs to be followed up by 3 monthly thyroid hormone levels with clinical correlation. Please get your liver and kidney function tests done. Donot attempt to stop the drug by yourself. Also your other medication if any have to be reviewed as they may be causing decreased metabolism of synthroid drug leading to its increased concentration in blood.
Hope this information helps. Wish you good health.
