Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Excessive Sweating And Dropped Body Temperature?
My mother in law is 82 and has been on dialysis for several years. Just last week she went in the hospital with possible UTI or pneumonia. She was released and sent back to the nursing home. Yesterday she began sweating profusely and her body temp dropped. She is now more confused and not responding to questions. Is this a way the body starts shutting down?
Your question is does lowering temperature and increased confusion is a sign of the body shutting down. Or in other words is she dying. This is a possibility that she maybe dying or having another infection. We usually assume fever as a sign of infection but in an elderly patient lowering of temperature maybe a sign of infection. I would recommend the staff be made aware of these changes and contact her doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
