I can t find any kind of relief from Extreme head sweat. The slightest stress or exertion causes buckets of sweat. I look like I just came out of a shower. I ve had my thyroid removed years ago but my blood work is ok for the levels of Synthroid. It s literally driving me crazy. Any ideas? Please help. My family doctor keeps pushing it aside.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
What you are suffering from is most probably hyperhidrosis and to be more specific palmo-plantar type of hyperhidrosis. The cause of hyperhidrosis can be divided into primary and secondary. Primary hyperhidrosis are caused by genetic inheritance. It becomes evident during adolescents and is triggered by hot climates, spicy food, and anxiety. Secondary hyperhidrosis is caused most commonly is thyroid and pituitary disorders, diabetes and heart failure. I would like you to visit a physician to rule out the secondary causes of hyperhidrosis to initiate treatment. Treatment of hyperhidrosis is using antiperspirants like aluminium chloride at higher concentrations. Axillary hyperhidrosis is tackled by using Botulinum toxin (Botox) and surgical removal of sweat glands. In your particular case endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy can be done to relieve palmar sweating. Here the nerve supply to the sweat glands is ablated so that the sweat glands don't function. Please discuss this with your doctor after ruling out secondary causes of hyperhidrosis.Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein
