General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The thick mucus in vocal cords may be in concern with chronic inflammation, vocal cord papilloma or other allergic disorders. An ENT expert after performing Indirect laryngoscopy will guide you for the need of possible biopsy or throat swab for the further management guidelines on microbiological basis. If any of your reports are available with you, please take time to share with me during follow up discussion for best evaluation and further guidelines in accordance to that only.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
