What Causes Excessive Vaginal Bleeding?

What would cause abnormal vaginal bleeding? Had a pap, waiting for results but physician said cervix looked irritated and would bleed when touched. Tests for all viral and sti s have come back negative. Not pregnant and recent (4 months) after removal of mirena

Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. Abnormal vaginal bleeding can have several causes as follows: 1. Erosion of the cervix or unhealthy cervix. 2. Polyps of the cervix or the uterus. 3. infections of the uterus and/or the vagina. 4. Hormonal disturbances, either physiological or organic. 5. Cysts of the ovary. 6. Infections of the pelvic organs and urinary tract infections. 7. Systemic infections. 8. Use of certain medications. Please wait for the report to plan further management. If the smear shows any abnormality, you can go a colposcopy to help in the diagnosis and further management. Hope this helps.
