What Causes Excessive Weight Gain After Taking Lyrica?
I have a friend who took LYrica for her fibromyalgia...it did help her pain but she said she gained about 35 pounds. She had always been a tiny gal and looked very different. What is the incidence of weight gain like this? I have fibromyalgia now that is kind of constant but has worse flare with any event or stress.
Approximately 1 out of 10 persons who use Lyrica, can gain weight.
There are a number of medications that unfortunately cause weight gain. Medications cause weight gain by - (1) increasing appetite (2) decreasing fullness (3) decreasing energy and activity levels (4) affecting metabolism.
Most do not affect all of these areas, only 1 or 2. Whilst it is not possible to do anything much about a change in metabolism, if a person is aware that a medication can affect weight then consciously making sure to use foods that associated with weight and being as active as is individually possible, would help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
