What Causes Excessive Weight Loss After A Neck Surgery?

Thanks for taking my question! I had surgery to remove four disks in my neck that were pressing against a nerve or nerves, Over the past 7 months I have experienced weight loss of 35lbs., significant loss of muscles, and weekness more on the left side from neck down. The replacement disks are now making a grindind noice with movements of my head. What could be the problem?
