What Causes Excruciating Pain And Bruising On The Shin?

I fell down several steps and landed on a concrete sidewalk ten days ago. I am just now beginning to bruise on my left shin; however, I have had severe pain since the fall. (When I fell forward and down, all my weight landed on my shin on the edge of one of the steps.) The pain was excruciating when I fell, and I just knew I had broken my lower leg. I elevated my leg, took Advil, and applied ice. I was able to put weight on it and walk after a few hours, though with a lot of pain. Now - ten days later - I still have horrible pain, along with the bruising that just started. The pain throbs on the inside, like a bone pain. The skin is very painful too, just having a sheet touch it or clothes, is almost unbearable. Husband thinks it is just a deep bruise, but I m concerned I ve fractured something. It would be a first for me, so I have no reference. I ve never had the deep throbbing pain as well as the skin tenderness to touch of any kind previously. Thoughts? Thank you!

General Surgeon 's  Response
I have gone through your question thoroughly what I have realized that u should do an X-ray tibia. Tibia is medical terminology is what u call shin. a digital x-ray should be done from front and side view (AP and lateral view). and you should immediately concern and orthopedic surgeon for further management. there is a possibility of broken bone as its more common to fracture this bone as it is mostly exposed bone at front in leg.
