What Causes Excrutiating Gum Pain During Flight?

I get severe pain in teeth when flying. My teeth and gums go numb on one side and I get pain from my forehead right into my mouth. Totally excruciating so I only do 2 hour flights and that's a nightmare. Pain starts when I'm into the flight about 45 mins but disappears on landing. Had a sinus op but no good and asked my dentist but he doesn't know. Have you any ideas why my teeth and gums go numb?
THANK YOU

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain you are suffering from a condition known as BARODONTALGIA which is pain in teeth during flight and is common in case of upper teeth and it occurs as referred pain from maxillary sinuses[barosinusitis] as in flight there isa low pressure at a high altitude while pressure inside the sinuses is comparatively high and pressure difference leads to inflammation in the sinus linings and congestion leading to reduced drainage from sinuses and this lead to pain which radiates to teeth..
In case if the pain is severe and intolerable you can consult an ENT surgeon and get evaluated..
In mild cases decongestent nasal sprays and higher painkillers like tramadol can relieve you during flight..
While in severe cases or in mild resistent cases to medicines Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is done to improve drainage from sinuses and improve ventilation..

Hope this information helps..
