Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have some extra skin hanging out of my rectum. I have had it for about 6 months now. I do not have any pain except when I set down or walk. My bowels are constantly working over time. I have to go at least 4-5 times daily and when I am driving to work I have to stop to have a bowel movement. It is possible that I could have some kind of rectal cancer. I am a 53-year-old male, with a wife and I have not been able to tell her because it is embarrassing. Any suggestions as to what it may be. I have never had a colonoscopy.
Colonic cancer is commonly associated with constipation but there are some persons who do have increased frequency instead.
The other symptoms that may be present are: loss of appetite, abdominal pain, blood in the stool, weight loss.
There are also other possible causes such as: (1) irritable bowel syndrome (2)infection (3)food intolerance- should note if it occurs in response to certain foods (4)hyperthyroidism- high levels of thyroid hormone can also do this (5)diabetest (6)inflammatory bowel disease
It would be best to discuss with your wife and then your doctor so that you can be assessed.
I hope this helps
