What Causes Extreme Breathlessness Upon Walking?

Hi, My father who is 64, who has never had this before, can t walk up the stairs , or walk around a golf course with out being able to catch his breath . He gets very very winded easy and is complaining of sore legs at the same time. Can you tell me what is happening to him? Thank you for your time Michele

Hello Michele.

Usually these symptoms are from a cardiac problem as with congestive heart failure or coronary artery disease.

The other possibility would be anemia.

He needs to have a doctor evaluate this with an exam, chest x-ray, EKG, blood work, and a stress test
