What Causes Extreme Dizziness And Nausea Despite Having Vertigo?

Yes, Saturday I started feeling dizzy and it got progressively worse with the worst being Monday. Tuesday and today it is a little better. My head is also really congested from allergies and I am taking Allegra. I have had a problem with vertigo in the past but never this bad. Even when sitting or lying still I feel like I had a big night out on the town and my head is just swirling. Sometimes worse than others. If it is controlled just being still, the minute I put my head to one side or the other, or up or down I get the dizziness and then it calms down when I stay in that position. I am over 65 so I worry about stroke. I am breathing ok just slight nausea sometimes. Could severe head congestion cause the dizziness? Or am I just having a bad bout of vertigo?

Hello,

Severe vertigo bout with extreme dizziness do indicate possible issues with the fluid homeostasis involving the inner ear endolymph most likely or cochlear issues. In my clinic, after primary check up of middle ear via otoscope, Weber and Rinne's tests are carried out and if required an audiometry report is ordered for the same. Primary relieving medications include beta histidine, diphenhydramine or ergot preparations for best results. In some cases Appley's maneuvers help great to adjust the fluid homeostasis by certain directions particularly.
