What Causes Extreme Fatigue And Sleepiness With Episodes Of Passing Out?

I ve been very tired for many weeks now. I have been experiencing a lot of sleeping lately way more than normal. Most recently I ve been off of work for three days because of fatigue, and having feeling light headed. To the point I don t feel safe driving. I experienced this about a year ago but it was preceded by intestinal pain then followed by vomiting. After vomiting I passed out, not sure how long. I woke up and found that I was lying in a puddle of my own urine. I then saw my doctor, after this previous experience, and my neck arteries and my heart were ultra sound tested and found OK. he also tested my stool and that checked out OK. I have a physical scheduled for 08/20/15 with the same doctor, do you have any recommendations on what I should ask my doctor relative to tests or anything else?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

In my opinion, thereis no reason to be worried and usually this is just temporary and self limiting. Excessive daytime sleepiness is common issues and should be considered in this case..

Excessive daytime sleepiness may be caused by conditions such sleep deprivation, metabolic disturbances, sleep apnoea, medications, neurological disorders such seizures and psychiatric disorders such depression.

If emotional causes are ruled out then some tests can be done to confirm the diagnosis. In my opinion, polysomnography ( sleep study ), is one of the necessary examinations in order to achieve a correct diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
