What Causes Extreme Redness And Pain In Foot With Swollen, Sore Toes?
my 92 year old father has developed extreme redness and pain in his left foot. It is cold to the touch and seems to be swelling and is sore to touch in places of his toes and top of foot. His is taking 650 mg of Tylenol every six hours, but no one can tell me what is causing the problem.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have extreme redness and pain in foot with swollen, sore toes . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like arthritis , gout , blocked blood vessels , corn and callus or infection in the joint. The symptoms can also occur due to diabetes . I would suggest you to apply ice pack to ankle , take proper rest and ankle and keep your leg elevated while sleeping . Side effects of certain medicine can also cause such symptoms .Consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination. Doctor my order CT scan, MRI along with physical examination to rule out any injury . Doctor may prescribe allopurinol , methotrexate along with anti inflammatory or antibiotics . Doctor may also refer you to cardiologist in case of blood vessel blockage or neurologist for nerve problem like neuropathy.
