What Causes Extreme Sensitivity Around The Head And Swelling In The Gums?

Periodically, I have extremely an area around one side of my head that causes extreme sensitivity on my skin and acute shooting pains into my ear. This happens only to one ear each time. The shooting pains last for 2-3 days. I almost always end up with an area of my gums swelling and becoming sore. This time, I also had a very light rash on my upper jawline toward my ear. I wondered if it might be a type of shingles, but the rash isn t very bad and was only there a couple of days before diminishing.

Hi,

You have not mentioned the exact site of pain in your head but Your facial and jaw symptoms may be due to an underlying condition of a nerve called- trigeminal neuralgia.

However, to rule out other underlying cause you can see your doctor and get a CT scan of your brain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
