What Causes Extreme Swelling In Lips During Periods?

My daughter gets extremely swollen lips when she starts her period. So bad that if you saw them you would run for an epi pen. They have never interfered with her breathing (yet) but it keeps her out of school and makes her miserable. What causes this? At first we thought it was an allergy but the only common denominator is the start of her period. Please help

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Maybe it is an allergic reaction to the pads she is using or if she uses any painkiller on the first day of the period. Try to charge them or use cotton cloth pads.

I don't find it related to any other thing. Give her any antihistamines such Benadryl or cetirizine. If swelling interests breathing you can go to a hospital for epinephrine and prednisone injections.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
