What Causes Extreme Swelling On The Tongue?

Hi, I have had a chronic very swollen tongue, mostly towards the back of my throat. I have constant mucous production, and extreme fatigue. My labs, cbc/cmp, look clean, but i feel as though there is an infection. What labs would be relevant to help diagnose?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of extreme swelling on the tongue towards back of throat which seems to be due to allergic reaction such as angioedema due to chronic exposure to allergen. Need not to worry. Visit oral physician once and get it examined as it could be possible that it could impair breathing activities as it can leads to accumulation of secretions at back. You should go for allergy testing to find out exact cause and start treatment accordingly. I would suggest you to

- Drink plenty of water and fluids.
-Apply topical antimicrobial ointment on sores.
- Apply small amount of milk of magnesia.
-Avoid hot, salty, spicy and sharp food.
-Apply dologel on tongue and oral cavity.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
