What Causes Extreme Tiredness, Numbness At The Back And High Fever?

My husband has just been released from the hospital with no answers yet to his symptoms. In the last 2 months he has been extremely tired, and achy with numbness that radiates from his back around his waist on one side. This past Monday he had a high fever of 103, my husband is 62 years old. He had a cat scan & MRI which came up negative. The hospital ran a series of blood work which so far has only showed that there is inflammation in his blood. We are still waiting for the rest of blood work to come back from the infectious disease doctor. His mothers history is that she had rheumatoid arthritis and Lupus. On his fathers side he had 2 aunts that had multiple sclerosis. If the blood work from the infectious disease doctor comes up negative. I am going to suggest to the doctor to run a series of blood work for autoimmune diseases. I am just looking to know if my suggestion is correct or where else we should be looking for answers.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

An autoimmune screen should definitely be considered if it has not been already done.

Autoimmune diseases commonly cause aches/pain along with fatigue.

There are quite a few autoimmune diseases but the lab will likely have a panel that can be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
