What Causes Extreme Tiredness, Pain And Burning In Heels And Arches Of Feet?
For over a month the heals and arches of my feet feel extremely tired, achy and burning. Like they need a good stretch. They feel this way even when I first awake. My ankle bone feels numb on the left side, and my 2 middle fingers feel numb and burning. I have been under stress from work, and have not had a blood sugar test in about 5 years. Diabetes? I m scared to find out........
The symptoms you have been experiencing point towards peripheral neuropathy which is caused by the following: 1) Diabetes mellitus 2) Excessive chronic alcohol drinking 3) Vitamin B12 deficiency 4) Hypothyroidism 5) Shingles 6) Chronic kidney disease 7) Multiple myeloma 8) Lupus 9) Amyloidosis 10) Rheumatoid arthritis 11) Few medications like chemotherapy causes peripheral neuropathy.
Please get tested for diabetes mellitus as it's the most common cause. If it comes negative then we can evaluate for other causes. Don't worry as diabetes is easily controllable now with newer medications and approaches.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
