Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Extremely Foul Smelling Burps And Gas After Taking Zonisamide And Loratadine?
my son, 11 years has been having extremely foul smelling burps and gas for two weeks. Before this began, his breath had the smell of some sort of medication, much like something in at the dentist. His medications are: Zonisamide 300 mg and Loratadine 10 mg daily. could there be an underlying cause?
Noted the history about your 11-year-old son having foul smelling burps and gas after taking Zonasamide and Loratidine. Although it is not much reported about this with the said medications one can go ahead with further investigations to know the possible cause and get treated accordingly.
I would advise the following in such a situation: Get the stool and blood tests done. Watch for the diet, see if any food or beverages is causing this. If there are positive findings like infection in tests get a course of an appropriate antibiotic, Metronidazole and probiotics.
Also give Omeprazole and Domperidone to control burps. Give activated charcoal. You can stop or change over to another medications only with the consent of guidance of your doctors if the above measures fail to respond positively.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
