Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My eyelashes are falling out... 2-3 daily. I have no new medication. Eat a healthy diet with plenty of vegetables. During the summer I was loosing hair on my head but attubuted it to the serious needed for cataract surgery (before and after surgery). The hair on my head is falling out less but now it s the eyelashes. Is there a vitamin I should take ? Thanks My thyroid is normal .
1. As your thyroid report is normal thus it has been excluded as the cause of eyelashes to fall so other conditions which have to be ruled out are:
. eyelash loss after surgery does happen in some patients as a part of the healing process the so-called 'follicle shock' or telogen effluvium and might take up to 6 months to grow back unless there is some alopecia issue.
2. A second opinion with a Dermatologist [skin cancer on the edges of the eyelids, alopecia aerata] or an Ophthalmologist would be worthy of choice to exclude causes like blepharitis, chemical allergy to mascara.
3. As you are already taking a healthy diet thus other recommended guidelines for you are:
- take vitamin H [biotin] which encourages eyelash regrowth and prevents them from drying and falling out likewise vitamin B3 [niacin] improves blood flow to your hair follicles and metabolize keratin which supports hair growth
- rub castor/jojoba oil onto your lashes before bedtime and take food high in protein and essential fatty acids
