What Causes Facial Swelling Along With Itching All Over The Body?

After eating pizza & breadsticks at a friends house I began to feel weird. I had diarrhea and then began to itch everywhere, my skin turned red, and my hands/face began to swell. I took some benadryl and it eliminated my symptoms. There was nothing new about the pizza, it was from a restaurant I have eaten at before, no new toppings (just pepperoni and stuffed crust). I drank a dr pepper (again nothing new). I have never had food allergies or any type of allergies before. Should I be concerned? Should I go see an allergist?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have got an allergic reaction/anaphylaxis reaction and it seems most probably be due to any food ingredient only, while can also be due to other causes like any medication, any poisonous bug bite while any environmental irritant can also be a cause..
Although you did not eat anything new but there is a possibility that there is any expired ingredient or anything else that has led to severe allergic reaction..

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, Food challenge test etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

Once the allergen is ruled out avoid further exposure to the allergen..
You can also take anti allergics like Benadryl or Levocetrizine if there is accidental exposure to the allergen again..
In case if the reaction is severe you can be advised injectable steroids to reduce the symptoms faster..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
