What Causes Faint Brownish Cloudy Discharge Along With Stools?

I am experiencing a light, faint brownish mist or cloud coming from my stool. For the last couple of months i believe. No constipation at all or discomforts or pain or major bloating. Stool seems ordinary bought but definitely much easier to pass. Doesn t appear to be red in any way but I don t know if it s related to my diet or I may have some ongoing gastro issues. Any thoughts what it can be?

Hi,

If you do not have abdominal pain, cramping or nausea, this is unlikely to be a something serious. But brown coloured stool can suggest melaena (altered blood from some bleeding points in upper bowel), especially if the stool is sticky.

So, if I were your treating doctor, I would have ordered a stool microscopy and occult blood test. If it is negative, I won't be worried and otherwise I will search for the bleeding point. Your doctor will guide you.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
