Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Fainting And Nausea While On Penicillin?
My 6 year old had an allergic reaction about 2 days ago. She has been on penicillin for week but when I took her to ER...They did not know whether it was a penicillin reaction..Or Utinatia (I hope I m saying that right) . I was not satisfied with their care. I have read online that you normally treat this with a shot or shots of epinephrine among others. They did nothing. They said to give Benedryl. My little girl has been MISERABLE! Her symptoms were so extreme that she even lost consciousness and has felt nauseous ever since (2 days now). Does this sound right? Or, as a physician, would you have cared for her differently in that situation?
Penicillin can cause a notorious allergic reaction in susceptible individuals. I used to give a test dose of Penicillin before administering that. We always keep Epinephrine injection to immediately give in case of an anaphylactic reaction. Benadryl which your doctor gave does help in suppressing the allergy or urticaria.
However, if the reaction keeps persisting and if she experiences any of the following symptoms kindly get her to a pediatrician immediately.
1) Breathlessness.
2) Palpitation.
3) Dizziness.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Moses John Wesley,
