What Causes Fainting During A Pulmonary Function Test?

I passed out during the breathing test PFT. This occurs sometimes during one part of the test where you inhale deeply, then exhale very hard, and then keep blowing, blowing, and blowing until all the air in my lungs are exhaled; usually this hard exhaling lasts about 10 - 15 seconds while having a clip on my nostrils. What causes the fainting?

Hello,

You may be having vasovagal syncope. Deep inspiration may lead to raised intrathoracic pressure lead to the decreased venous return lead to syncope.

Other possibilities like infection or cardiac dysfunction or postural hypotension etc.

Get it done ECG, echo and urine examination.

Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
