What Causes Fainting Spell After Drinking Cold Water?
my daughter 17 yrs old 4 11 97lbs fainted after taking a gulp of cold water she felt pain in between her chest cavity and then felt slight dizziness and fainted. She had not eaten or drank anything yet that morning. Her doctor said she had a vagal episode due to possible reflux. Can you elaborate?
I agree with her doctor on this diagnosis. It seems that the cold water has triggered the vagal nerve receptors in the throat, causing an over activity of this nerve, leading to loss of conscience. There is no reason to panic! Nothing serious is going on!
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
