What Causes Fall In Blood Pressure While On Lisinopril?
I am a 56 yr. old white male and I use to have normal blood pressure 120/80 until 4 yrs. ago. Then it has gradually increase to 135/85, then 145/87, then 155/90. Then my Dr. put me on blood pressure meds. I take morn. and night. one Lisinopril 20 mg. - 1 per day and carvedilol 12.5 mg. 2x day. Some evenings I feel light headed and my blood pressure machine shows it to be low 110/75 or as low as 90/52. some days it is high 180/125 and other times close to normal. What could cause this? I am treated by my family practitioner. And should should I see a heart DR.?
Hi welcome to HCM. The elevated blood pressure in your case is due the excess dose of antihypertensive medications being used in your case. Its advisable in your case to start these drugs at low doses and titrate the dose upwards based on the blood pressure values.I suggest you to maintain your blood pressure around 130/80 mm of Hg.Monitor your blood pressure twice weekly.Get a screening 2 dimensional echo of your heart to assess the cardiac output on semiannual basis.Hydrate yourself with 3-4 liters of water/day.Elevate the foot end of the bed at night.Consult your cardiologist for further care. Thank you.
