Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
There is fat on my left collar bone it is not painful I do have any pain around my neck, and no toothache. I weigh 160 lbs and I am 5'6. I have gone to my family practitioner and I had a ultrasound taken but they did not see anything but Fay mass. Could you please tell me what this could be or how it came about.
The swelling appears to be a Lipoma. which is basically a lump consisting of fat tissue between skin and the underlying muscle. It is usually painless and harmless and do not require any treatment. If I was your treating physician I would do a physical exam to confirm the diagnosis, an ultrasound of the lump and biopsy if required. Treatment options available, in case lipoma is growing in size or causing pain due to pressure on any nerve, are: Surgical removal, steroid injection in the lump to shrink it or liposuction which as evident by the name, just shrinks out the fat through a large bore needle. I would suggest you consult your local physician to establish a diagnosis through detailed clinical evaluation and get further management accordingly.
I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact HCM again if you have any concerns. Wishing you good health.
