What Causes Fatigue After Withdrawing From Prednisone?
is there such a thing as prednisone withdrawal? I was on Prednisone for three months with no definitive diagnosis. Initially, my rheumatologist gave a vasculitis diagnosis but then decided it was not as the blood tests all came out negative except for the inflammation markers. But irrespective of diagnosis the prednisone treatment would have remained the same. I came off it in December but have been feeling sluggish since then. Blood tests were all normal. What ever it was too a long time to get better but I don t even think I am 100% back to recovery where my energy level is concerned.
There is a withdrawal syndrome when you discontinue Prednisone after using it for a long time.
Your fatigue might be caused by the low levels of cortisol in your body after discontinuing Prednisone, and your body cannot compensate it.
You can continue feeling fatigue for several months until your body readjusts the cortisol levels, this depends on the dosage of Prednisone and the duration of the treatment that you have been going through.
You can help your body to increase cortisol levels by:
- sleeping more,
- avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and stress,
- and eating a healthy diet.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
