What Causes Fatigue Along With Constant Sleepiness?

For the last three days, I have unexplained fatigue, starting with the first day, I slept two hours later than normal. I then went back to bed an hour later and slept two more hours. I am back to regular hours of night sleep but cannot make it through the day without at least two more naps anywhere from 1.5-3 hours. Should I be real concerned and see my PCP?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As you are feeling tired and excessively sleepy only for 3 days, we can consider one reason as lack of enough sleep and too much work probably. You can wait a few days before visiting your PCP. Meanwhile, try to take a day off or try to sleep early at night and catch a good night's sleep in one shot. Frequent naps might not give as much refreshment as sleep of one shot for long silent hours of night. Use the nearest weekend to catch up on the lost sleep.

If you do not feel fresh even after that, we should consider anemia first. You can go for a blood test to get complete blood counts. If Red Blood Cells and Hemoglobin show less than normal numbers, anemia can be diagnosed a reason for your fatigue and can be treated with medicines and diet changes. Other reasons may include depression, muscle problems etc.

You can follow the above advise and get back to me with the results. I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
