What Causes Fatigue Along With Vomiting And Diarrhea?

I have had chronic diarrhea for five or six weeks for two or three days a week. Three weeks ago it began a cycle of once a week... sudden fatigue, nausea until I vomited and had diarrhea like water. Then I regain strength in a couple of days, add food to my diet until everything is back to normal for about 3 -4 days. Then the exact same thing happens again one week later. Usually about 4 hours after waking up.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, the Lethargy and weaknesses plus other symptoms that you have shared can either be due to the primary disease or infection whether bacterial or viral causing diarrhea or due to the loss of important electrolytes and water.

I suggest you should have some basic work up if symptoms recur like stool analysis as well as baseline blood counts along with renal functions and serum electrolytes. Meanwhile, keep taking oral rehydration salts for regaining some of lost water and salts.

Avoid spicy, greasy heavy meals, fizzy drinks, and junk food and also prefer soft diets. A trial of oral metronidazole can be given after discussing with your primary care physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin
